- Awardee 8th international CHOREOGRAPHIC CAPTURES competition
3rd price + cinema price
Jury decision:
A male dancer enters into a symbiotic dialogue with the camera – in “AS60”, a light body repeatedly appears out of the darkness into the image. The soundscape orchestrates how the man rushes past. Rhythmically, like a painting that has been set into movement, a body and a face, that is contorted in effort, rise up and then disappear out of sight. In his Choreographic Capture Shumpei Nemoto manages to meld the movements in the recording and choreography into simultaneously cinematically and choreo-graphically surprising tableaux mouvants.
The jury awards one of the 3rd prizes and a cinema prize to “AS60” by Shumpei Nemoto for the physical energy that creates constantly developing dynamics in the interaction between the dancer and the camera.
The Filmmaker:
'AS60' shoot at 96fps (slow motion) while camera person swinging the camera side to side constantly.
It came out as the result of the experimentation in the collaborative/choreographic process with dancer and camera person.
There is no visual effect involved in editing process except little correction of the position, speed and the order of the video footage.
